Ours is a true family business that came to Axminster five years ago when we took over the Post Office and operated it alongside an extensive newsagents and general store. Last year, the opportunity arose to move the newsagents and store element to next door premises, and in doing so we relinquished the Post Office. Customer service in a friendly environment is our big priority.
While we have called it ‘Axe News’, our offerings go well beyond newspapers and magazines and include an extensive greetings cards section, sweets, alcohol, vegetables and a wide variety of households essentials. We offer a newspaper delivery service in the immediate area and, during lockdown, also delivered food to those who were shielding.
We have long term plans to add a ‘Zero Shop’ to the business where our customers can bring their own containers and top up on essentials while also doing their bit to avoid unnecessary packaging. We are holding back on that one until after the immediate pandemic is over.
